Most solar calculators want your email before showing results. Ours doesn't. Enter four details about your home, and we'll estimate your system size, cost, savings, and payback period using current 2026 electricity rates and provincial incentive data. No black boxes - every assumption is explained below.

How We Calculate Your Estimate

Transparent methodology - no black boxes

Where does this data come from?

Electricity rates come from published utility tariffs (BC Hydro, SaskPower, Hydro-Québec, OEB, etc.) as of February 2026. Solar irradiance data uses Natural Resources Canada's photovoltaic potential dataset. Incentive amounts are sourced from federal and provincial government program pages. All sources are listed in our provincial guides.

How accurate is this estimate?

This calculator provides a reasonable ballpark - typically within 15–20% of a professional quote for system sizing and annual production. Cost estimates may vary more due to local installer pricing, roof complexity, and equipment choices. For exact numbers, we recommend getting quotes from certified installers in your area.

Why don't you ask for my email or address?

Because we're not selling your contact info to installers. Most solar calculators gate their results behind a contact form so they can sell your data as leads. We show you everything upfront. When you're ready for exact numbers, you can request quotes on your own terms.

What assumptions does the calculator use?

We assume 400W panels, 80% overall system efficiency (accounting for inverter losses, wiring, soiling, and degradation), province-specific peak sun hours from NRCan data, and installed costs of $2.50–$3.50/watt depending on province. We apply a 3% annual electricity rate increase when calculating 25-year savings and 1% annual panel degradation.

What's Included in Your Estimate

Four dimensions of your solar investment

System Sizing

  • Recommended system size (kW)
  • Number of 400W panels
  • Estimated annual production (kWh)
  • Based on your province's solar resource

Financial Analysis

  • System cost before and after incentives
  • Annual and monthly electricity savings
  • Payback period in years
  • 25-year net savings projection

Incentives Applied

  • Federal programs (Greener Homes)
  • Provincial rebates and grants
  • Tax exemptions (PST/GST)
  • Net metering credit value

Environmental Impact

  • Annual CO₂ offset in tonnes
  • Equivalent trees planted
